1922

In 1922, the Geelong Returned Soldiers and Servicemen (R.S and S) Woollen Mills was established to provide employment to returned servicemen from WWI.

Situated at the Newtown end of Pakington street, the mill specialised in materials such as worsted cloth and woollen tweed, using a wide range of artificial and natural fibres. Part of the mill is still dedicated to textile manufacturing, with Geelong Textiles taking over the operations in 1971.

Today, the R.S and S Woollen Mills operate as a creative hub, housing artists and creatives such as Boom Gallery, Cricket Ink Studios, Blink Dance Theatre, Natural Supply Co and No Frills Art.
