1927

In 1927, Geelong Art Gallery Association former President and Vice-President Henry Percival Douglass passed away at the age of 68.

Douglass had a lasting impact on Geelong Gallery, so much so that members immediately campaigned to build a memorial wing in honour of him.

Pictured is a marble sculpture by Pieter Barranti and Antonio Canova, gifted to Geelong Gallery by Douglass’ wife Enid, who gifted several works to the collection.
