1974

Deakin University was established at Waurn Ponds in 1974, becoming the first university to be established in regional Victoria and the first to specialise in distance education. 

Deakin’s first students started in 1977, and these students were photographed in 1980. Deakin is now a well established university with campuses in Warrnambool and Burwood, and has been a close collaborator of Geelong Gallery’s for many years.
