Director Susie Shears began her role in 1986 and led Geelong Gallery until 1998. Shears now holds the position of Cultural Collections Coordinator at The University of Melbourne. 

Geelong Gallery’s first computer was purchased as a new technological age began. The IBM computer simplified operations, and also had the Victorian Public Galleries Cataloguing System software, enabling the permanent collection to begin its digital life.
